But Patrol

We’ve all heard it. “I love you, but …”

Or

“It’s fine, but …”

Buts are slippery little fellows. They can be disguised as compliments, advice, suggestions–you name it.

But, beware!

No matter how small a word or how innocent it may seem the but is like an evil mother-in-law waiting to undermine all your good.

A well placed but has power. It taunts us. Mocks us. It says, “Forget everything you just read and how nicely it was written, here comes the real truth.”

So I invite you to join the But Patrol. Watch out for those suckers. Become leery of their charm. Avert your eyes when alerted to their presence … or don’t. You choose, but don’t say I didn’t warn you.

To All My fellow Bloggers:
I considered giving each of you $1,000 for reading this post,
but I decided to give you my thanks instead.

Mother-in-law is a generic reference.
No actual mother-in-laws were harmed in the making.

Thanks for the thanks, but I prefer the grand. Funny one. Very true.
